Another conclusive piece of evidence for evolution.

Nature tried this idea, it seems to have worked but other solutions worked better so were more successful, giving their proponents an advantage. Thus this concept was left behind.

To Brittany:
Leaving aside the physiological objections to a "contortionist" dinosaur, wind tunnel tests have been performed on various Microraptor models, including the “flattened and splayed” configuration, which have demonstrated that the flattened and splayed pose is the least effective of the various proposed configurations -- significantly so, in fact. The Chatterjee model glides very nicely, while the F&S dino just tends to splat into the ground. Evolution tends to favor success. If you have wings success means flying; failure means crashing.
Check out the PBS Nova website. There you can view an hour long video on Microraptor which goes into detail about the configuration controversy.

what if the microraptor dislocated its bones in order to sprawl out its back legs and fly "flat"? people dislocate themselves in order to fit into smaller places then there bodies will naturaly allow. but we are still able to do so. just a thought
